Sturgis is different then Daytona Bike Week in a few ways. In addition to the bikers, Daytona has spring break mixed in. Sturgis is mostly an older crowd, so the music, parties and events are geared towards them. Like Daytona, there is a downtown Sturgis that gets blocked out for walking and staggering around. The other big difference is the Sturgis event is very spread out and has many more fun roads and rides to do. Mt. Rushmore, Custer Park, Badlands, Needles Highway and just going from small town to town can be a lot of fun. Lots to do, see and buy.
I camped in the VIP section of the Buffalo Chip Campground. This Campground and RV park ballons into an entire town by itself. Year round, the Chip it has RV hook ups and a small lake with a bar, they setup huge stages, vendor areas, demonstration areas, race areas and more. It has become so world famous, it was announced this year that a Buffalo Chip Casino was going to be built in southern Nevada and replicate the park
I made friends with my neighbors next door, David and Janet Diamond from Merritt Island. They have been coming to Sturgis for years, staying at the Buffalo chip and knew everybody. They are extremely nice took me, included me on rides with them ( motorcycle and bicycle) and introduced me around to the other long term Sturgis loyalist in the VIP behind the main state. They have done very well for themselves owning and managing real estate and now spend 6 months of the year traveling the country, biking and having a great times. I look forward to seeing them again as our paths criss cross the country.
